The 30mm diameter lets you work precisely on tight contours - around door handles, inside mirror housings, along pillar edges - without the plate or pad contacting adjacent panels or rubber trim. Larger plates simply cannot navigate these areas safely.
What speed range should I run on a rotary?
Start conservatively around 600-900 RPM to get a feel for heat build-up on a small contact patch. Because the plate is so small, heat can concentrate quickly. Increase speed gradually based on the compound and paint hardness.
How do I attach and remove pads safely?
Press the pad firmly onto the hook-and-loop face and ensure it is centred before starting the machine. To remove, peel the pad off straight - twisting can stress the Velcro interface over time. Inspect the hook-and-loop surface regularly for compound build-up and clean it with a brush or compressed air.
Will this backing plate work for decontamination or only paint correction?
It is primarily a correction and polishing tool. You can use it with a foam or microfibre cutting pad for spot paint correction, or with a soft finishing pad to refine after cutting. It is not designed for clay pad decon work at this diameter.
