What polishing machine does this kit work with?
The kit is designed for dual-action (DA) polishers. The 5-inch BigFoot foam pads suit most standard DA backing plates in that size range. It is not specifically intended for rotary use, though experienced operators may adapt the compounds accordingly.
In what order should I work through the three stages?
Start with the DA Coarse Compound on the DA Coarse Foam Pad to remove heavy swirl marks, scratches and oxidation. Step down to the DA Fine Compound on the DA Fine Foam Pad to eliminate compound trails and haze. Finish with the Rupes UNO Pure Ultra Finishing Polish on the DA Ultra Fine Foam Pad to bring the paint to a deep, hologram-free gloss.
Is this kit safe on all paint types?
Yes. The compounds and pads are suitable for all modern automotive paint systems and clear coats, including single-stage, two-stage and softer OEM finishes. As with any correction product, always test on an inconspicuous area first if you are working on an unfamiliar paint system.
How long should I let each compound flash before buffing off?
Rupes DA compounds do not require a dedicated flash time - work a manageable section (roughly 60 x 60 cm) at a time and wipe residue with a clean microfibre towel once the compound has broken down and the panel looks clear. UNO Pure can be wiped off immediately after finishing the pass.
Do I need to decontaminate the paint before using this kit?
Yes. Always complete a full decon stage before correction - wash, iron fallout remover and a clay bar or clay mitt - so you are not dragging contamination across the paint under the pad. Working on a clean, decontaminated surface also lets the compounds cut more efficiently and gives you a true read on the defects remaining.
Can I apply a ceramic coating or sealant directly after the UNO Pure stage?
Yes. The UNO Pure Ultra Finishing Polish is designed to leave the surface gloss-ready for protection. Wipe the panel down with an IPA panel wipe or prep spray after the final finishing stage to remove any light oil residue from the polish before applying your ceramic coating, sealant or wax.
How much product should I apply to each pad?
A pea-sized amount (roughly four small dots) on a primed pad is typically enough for a 60 x 60 cm section. The compounds are formulated to spread evenly, so avoid over-applying - excess product increases dust and can reduce cut efficiency. Re-apply as needed when the compound stops breaking down visibly.
Can I skip the coarse stage if the paint defects are light?
Absolutely. If the paint only has light swirl marks or light water-spot haze, start with the DA Fine Compound and Fine Foam Pad. Reserve the coarse stage for heavier defects like deep scratches, oxidation or compounding marks left by a previous detailer. The kit is a system, not a rigid sequence - use the stages the paint actually needs.
