What pad sizes work with the PE14-3?
The PE14-3 accepts polishing and sanding discs from 80mm up to 160mm in diameter. Flex recommends a 150mm pad as the ideal working size for most correction and polishing tasks.
Does the PE14-3 come with a backing plate or pads?
No. The machine is supplied with the side handle only - no backing plate, polishing pad or compound is included. You will need to source these separately to match your correction stage and pad diameter.
What surfaces can I use this polisher on?
It is designed primarily for painted automotive surfaces. Because it is a rotary, technique matters - it cuts efficiently on paint, but requires care around edges and tight body lines. It is not recommended for use directly on bare PPF or unwrapped vinyl without appropriate pad and speed selection.
How does the constant-speed system work?
A tacho-generator continuously measures actual disc speed and the board electronics adjust motor output in real time to maintain the RPM you have selected. When you press a cutting pad into a panel the speed does not drop - you get consistent cut throughout the pass.
What does the soft-start feature do?
Soft start ramps the disc up gradually when you pull the trigger rather than jumping straight to full speed. This prevents compound or polish flinging off the pad at startup and gives you a moment to seat the pad flat on the surface before speed builds.
Is the PE14-3 suitable for beginners?
This is a rotary polisher, which generates more heat and cut than a dual-action machine. It suits detailers who understand pad and compound pairing, panel edge awareness and the relationship between speed and cut. If you are new to machine polishing, practise on a test panel first and start at lower speed settings.
How long is the power cable and what type is it?
The PE14-3 ships with a 4-metre PUR H05-BQF cable. PUR construction makes it highly resistant to cuts, abrasion and flexing - it holds up well in a workshop environment and does not stiffen in cold conditions.
What protection does the machine have against motor damage?
The PE14-3 includes overload protection, temperature monitoring and restart protection after a power failure. On the lowest speed setting a fuse also protects the motor from overheating, making it reliable for extended low-speed polishing work.
