How does the grit guard actually work?
The raised radial grid sits at the bottom of the bucket. When you rinse your mitt against it, the agitation forces loosened dirt down through the grid. The grid then acts as a physical barrier, keeping the settled grit below while the clean wash solution above it stays ready for the next panel.
Will this fit my existing detailing buckets?
The MJJC Grit Guard is compatible with standard detailing buckets. If you are using a non-standard or unusually narrow bucket, check the internal diameter before purchasing. Most popular 15-litre and 20-litre wash buckets used in detailing should accept it without modification.
Do I need one grit guard or two?
For a proper two-bucket wash method you will want one in each bucket - your wash bucket and your rinse bucket. Using one in just the wash bucket is still better than no guard at all, but having one in the rinse bucket as well keeps the process fully controlled and reduces the chance of any contamination making its way back to the mitt.
What is the two-bucket wash method and why does it matter?
The two-bucket method uses a dedicated wash bucket loaded with shampoo solution and a separate rinse bucket filled with clean water. After each panel, you rinse the mitt in the rinse bucket first, agitate it against the grit guard to release the dirt, then reload in the wash bucket. This means you are never dragging the previous panel's grit across fresh paint.
