What is the difference between the corded and cordless modes?
The iBrid system lets you run the HLR15 on its 18V Li-ion battery when you need to move freely around a vehicle, then plug in via cord when you're working on a long correction job and want unlimited runtime. The motor output is consistent across both modes.
How long does the battery last and how quickly does it recharge?
The 18V 5Ah Li-ion battery delivers approximately 40 minutes of runtime at full power. The dual battery charger uses high-cell technology for rapid recharge cycles and prioritises the highest-voltage battery so a fully charged pack is always ready.
What pads are included in the Basic Kit?
The Basic Kit includes two D-A Intermediate foam polishing pads (9.DA150B), two D-A Fine foam polishing pads (9.DA150M), and two wool polishing pads. These cover you from heavy correction with the wool pads right through to final finishing with the Fine foam.
What pad size does the HLR15 take?
The HLR15 is designed to run with 150mm (6-inch) backing plates and pads, consistent with the Rupes D-A pad range included in the kit. Always match pad diameter to backing plate size for best oscillation behaviour.
Is the HLR15 suitable for paint correction on dark or black paint?
Yes. The 15mm random orbital throw and variable speed control give you enough cut to remove swirl marks and light scratches without the risk of burning through paint that a rotary carries. Start with the wool pad and a compound, then refine with the Intermediate and Fine foam pads to leave a gloss-ready finish.
Can I use the HLR15 to apply ceramic coatings or sealants?
The HLR15 is primarily a correction tool, but at low speed with a soft finishing pad it can be used to spread and level coatings and sealants. For ceramic application most detailers prefer hand applicators for better control over flash time, but for polymer sealants machine application works well.
Is the brushless motor any different in practice from a brushed DA polisher?
A brushless in-runner motor maintains more consistent torque as the pad loads up with compound or product. On brushed machines you often feel the pad slow noticeably under pressure; the HLR15 holds its speed more evenly, which means more consistent cut across the whole working stroke.
What surfaces can the HLR15 be used on?
The HLR15 works on clear-coated paintwork, single-stage paint, PPF and vinyl wraps (at low speed and with a soft pad). It is not designed for bare metal grinding or heavy abrasive work beyond what detailing compounds require. Avoid running on glass unless you are using a dedicated glass pad and compound.
