What does the Thermo Technology actually do?
Thermo Technology refers to the thermostable nature of the foam. As the pad heats up during polishing - which happens quickly on a rotary especially - the foam maintains its hardness and structure instead of softening and losing cut. You get consistent results from the first panel to the last.
Is this a cutting pad, a finishing pad, or something in between?
It sits in the medium/one-step range. It has enough cut to address light to moderate swirl marks and wash marring, but it refines well enough that you do not necessarily need a separate finishing stage. It is not a heavy cutting pad for deep scratches, and it is not a finishing pad for pure gloss enhancement.
What polishes or compounds work best with this pad?
This pad pairs well with one-step polish and compound products - anything marketed as an all-in-one or one-step is the natural match. You can also use it with a light to medium abrasive compound if the correction needed is on the lighter side. Avoid pairing it with heavy-cut compounds designed for a cutting pad, as the medium foam will not deliver enough backing pressure for deep scratch removal.
Can I use this pad on clear coat, fresh paint, or PPF?
Yes, the medium orange grade is safe on clear-coated paint. Exercise normal caution on fresh paint - allow adequate cure time before correcting. On PPF, always confirm the film manufacturer's recommendation before machine polishing, as some films are sensitive to heat and pressure.
How do I clean and maintain this pad?
Rinse the pad under warm water during or after use and work out the product with your fingers. You can also use a pad-cleaning brush or pad washer.
