Acid-Based Cleaning

Strip mineral deposits without stripping your coating

ZviZZer Sour Shampoo uses a carefully calibrated acidic formula at pH 3.4–3.8 to dissolve lime scale and mineral bonding on contact, the kind of contamination a neutral shampoo leaves behind. Your ceramic coating's slickness and hydrophobic performance stay fully intact after every wash.

Why Sour Shampoo

Built for coated vehicles

Every feature is aimed at keeping your protection performing longer.

  • pH 3.4–3.8 Formula

Precisely acidic enough to dissolve mineral deposits and lime without etching paint or glass.

  • Coating-Safe Chemistry

Maintains the protective layer of ceramic coatings, extending their effective service life.

  • Snow Foam Ready

Works as a traditional shampoo or active snow foam at 15 ml per litre in your foam cannon.

  • Removes Heavy Soiling

Tackles lime stains and mineral contamination that pH-neutral shampoos cannot shift.

How It Compares

Sour Shampoo vs. a standard car shampoo

A regular pH-neutral shampoo cleans general dirt well. Here is where the chemistry makes a difference for coated vehicles specifically.

Feature DetailerSA Alternative
Removes mineral deposits and lime scale Yes No
Safe on ceramic coatings Yes Yes
Maintains and extends coating lifespan Yes No
Usable as a snow foam Yes Yes
Safe on unprotected bare alloy wheels No Yes
Effective on general dirt and grime Yes Yes

Dual Application

Bucket wash or foam cannon - one product, both jobs

Whether you prefer the two-bucket method or a full snow foam pre-soak, Sour Shampoo dilutes easily for both. One litre goes a long way at 15–30 ml per 5 L, making it a practical, everyday part of a ceramic coating's maintenance routine.

This Acid based shampoo also has the same downfall as the Zvizzer Allround shampoo. Dilution ratios does not produce that much foam, but it clean really well and the smell it pleasant. 4 star just due to economy and foam.

Questions

Frequently asked

What makes an acid shampoo different from a regular car shampoo?

Most car shampoos are pH-neutral or mildly alkaline. ZviZZer Sour Shampoo sits at pH 3.4–3.8, which means it dissolves mineral deposits, lime scale and water-spot bonding that a neutral shampoo would simply rinse over. It is not a replacement for your everyday wash - it is the right tool when mineral contamination is present or when you want a wash that actively maintains a ceramic coating rather than degrading it.

Is it safe to use on a freshly applied ceramic coating?

Yes. The formula is specifically developed for ceramic-sealed vehicles. The acidic pH helps flush residual mineral contamination out of the coating rather than bonding with it, and the wash chemistry does not strip the protective layer. It is one of the few shampoos you can use regularly without shortening the life of your ceramic.

Can I use this on paintwork that has no coating - just bare paint or a wax?

Yes. ZviZZer states the product is safe on waxes and sealants as well as ceramic coatings. On bare, unprotected paint you can use it to treat mineral spotting, but follow up with your chosen protection afterwards since the acid will also strip any light wax residue in the process.

What is the correct dilution ratio for a bucket wash?

ZviZZer recommends 15–30 ml of Sour Shampoo per 5 litres of water in your wash bucket. Start at 15 ml for light soiling or a regular maintenance wash, and move towards 30 ml when mineral deposits or lime staining are heavier. Add the shampoo before filling the bucket to encourage foam.

How do I use this in a foam cannon or snow foam lance?

Add approximately 15 ml of Sour Shampoo to 1 litre of water in your foam cannon reservoir. Adjust the foam cannon's dilution dial and pressure to suit your setup. Apply the foam to the vehicle, allow it to dwell briefly to loosen contamination, then rinse thoroughly with a pressure washer before proceeding with a contact wash if needed.

Is this product suitable for washing wheels and glass?

The acidic formula is particularly effective on glass where lime and mineral water spotting build up, and it will lift brake dust and road grime from wheels coated with a ceramic or sealant. Avoid using it on uncoated bare alloy or polished aluminium, as prolonged acid contact on unprotected metal can cause etching. Rinse wheels thoroughly immediately after use.

How often should I use Sour Shampoo compared to a regular shampoo?

ZviZZer positions this as a product suitable for regular care of ceramic-sealed vehicles, so it can be used at every wash if you are maintaining a ceramic coating. If your vehicle is not coated or if mineral contamination is not an issue, alternating with a pH-neutral shampoo is a reasonable approach to keep paint chemistry balanced.

Can I layer a spray sealant or quick detailer over the paint after washing with this?

Absolutely. Because Sour Shampoo leaves the surface clean and free of mineral contamination, it is an excellent base for topping up with a spray sealant, ceramic spray or quick detailer. Make sure the surface is fully rinsed and dried before applying any follow-up product. If you are using it as part of a full decon process, complete any clay or iron fallout removal before topping.
