Built for Correction
One pad. Mild to severe defects. Done.
The Rupes DA Coarse pad's open-cell foam bites into swirls, scratches and heavy marring without loading up or losing structure mid-job. It works on random orbital and gear-driven machines, so it slots straight into your existing setup.
Why the DA Coarse
Cutting Performance Without Compromise
Four reasons professional detailers reach for this pad first.
-
Serious Cutting Ability
Open-cell foam removes mild to severe paint defects efficiently across most paint systems.
-
Dual Machine Compatibility
Designed to perform on both random orbital and gear-driven polishing tools.
-
Built to Last Longer
Improved durability over the previous blue and green Rupes foam pads.
-
Cut and Finish Together
Paired with Rupes DA Coarse compound, it cuts and refines in a single stage.
How It Compares
DA Coarse vs. a Generic Cutting Pad
Not all cutting pads are built the same. Here is how the Rupes DA Coarse stacks up against a typical budget cutting pad on the criteria that actually matter during a correction job.
| Feature | DetailerSA | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible with random orbital and gear-driven tools | Yes | No |
| Open-cell foam designed for cut and finish in one stage | Yes | No |
| Handles mild to severe defects on most paint systems | Yes | Yes |
| Engineered to pair with a specific compound for optimal results | Yes | No |
| Available in a 5-inch size | Yes | Yes |
| Requires a follow-up finishing pad for a fully refined gloss | Yes | Yes |
Engineered to Last
More durable than its predecessors, session after session.
Rupes rebuilt the foam compound from scratch, combining what worked in the old blue and green pads and then improving on both. The result is a pad that holds its shape, maintains consistent cut, and survives the repeat washing cycles a busy detailing operation demands.

Questions
Frequently asked
What polishing machines is this pad compatible with?
The Rupes DA Coarse pad is designed to work with both random orbital and gear-driven polishing tools, so it fits into most professional correction setups without needing a separate pad for each machine type.
What compound should I pair this pad with?
Rupes designed this pad to work alongside their DA Coarse compound. That pairing gives you the most efficient cut and the best finishing ability in a single stage. You can experiment with other compounds, but the Rupes DA Coarse compound is the optimised match.
How severe are the defects this pad can handle?
The DA Coarse pad is rated for mild to severe defects across most paint systems. That covers light water-mark hazing all the way through to heavy swirl marks and deeper random scratches. For extremely deep gouges that catch a fingernail, machine correction alone may not be sufficient.
What is the pad diameter?
This is a 5-inch pad. Match it to a 5-inch backing plate for correct contact and even pressure distribution across the surface.
How does this pad differ from the old Rupes blue and green foam pads?
Rupes developed this new open-cell foam to combine the cutting ability of the previous green pad with the finishing characteristics of the previous blue pad. It also offers increased durability over both predecessors, so it holds its structure and cut over more correction sessions.
How do I prime and use the pad correctly?
Prime the pad by applying a small amount of compound and spreading it at low speed before beginning your pass. Work in 40 x 40 cm sections, apply light to moderate pressure, and let the machine and compound do the work. Wipe residue with a clean microfibre cloth after each section and inspect the paint before moving on.
How do I clean and maintain the pad after use?
Rinse the pad under warm water immediately after use and work out compound residue by hand or with a pad cleaning brush. Avoid twisting or wringing the foam, which can tear the open-cell structure. Allow the pad to air-dry face-down before storing it flat or in a pad case.
What finish does this pad leave, and do I need to follow up with a finishing pad?
Because this is a cutting pad, it will leave the paint corrected but not fully refined. In most cases you will want to follow up with a light finishing pad and polish to bring the surface to a gloss-ready state before applying a wax, sealant, or ceramic coating. The exact level of refinement needed will depend on the paint hardness and the compound used.
