What pH range is this sprayer compatible with?
This pump is designed for alkaline and pH-neutral products, covering pH 7 through to pH 14. That includes pre-wash detergents, traffic-film removers and pH-neutral shampoos. If your product sits between pH 1 and 6 (acidic), you need the Fra-Ber acid-rated version instead - using the wrong pump will degrade the seals over time.
How do I know which pump to buy - acid or alkaline?
Check the label of the product you plan to use. Manufacturers are required to list pH or at least indicate whether a product is acidic, neutral or alkaline. As a rule: wheel fallout removers, iron decon sprays and cement removers are typically acidic; pre-wash foams, degreasers and shampoos are typically alkaline or neutral. When in doubt, go alkaline - it covers neutral products too.
How does the continuous-spray lock work?
Once you've built up pressure by pumping the handle, press and hold the spray trigger, then engage the lock button. The sprayer will continue spraying without you holding the trigger down. This lets you focus on directing the nozzle and maintaining even coverage, which is particularly useful when pre-washing large panels or working around the car.
What is the tank capacity?
The tank holds 2 litres. There is a clearly marked fill-level indicator line on the body - filling to that line leaves the correct air space above the liquid so the pump can build proper pressure. Overfilling past that line reduces the air pocket and weakens the spray.
How does the safety valve work?
The safety valve serves two purposes: you can manually press it to release pressure from the tank (useful when you're finished and want to open the lid safely), and it also triggers automatically if the internal pressure exceeds the maximum safe level. This prevents the tank from being over-pressurised during pumping.
Can I use this for ceramic or coating sprays?
That depends on the pH of the specific product. Most coating prep sprays (IPA wipes, panel wipes) are close to neutral, which would be fine here. However, many coatings themselves are not designed to go through a compression sprayer at all. Always check the coating manufacturer's application instructions first. This pump is built for decon and wash products, not coating application.
Can this be used on wheels, glass and trim as well as paint?
Yes - the sprayer itself is just a delivery tool. Where you spray is determined by the product inside it, not the pump. As long as the chemical you're using is appropriate for the surface (wheels, glass, trim, paint), this pump will deliver it. Just make sure the product is alkaline or pH-neutral to stay within the pump's rated range.
How do I clean and maintain the sprayer between uses?
After each session, release any remaining pressure via the safety valve, empty any leftover product, then fill the tank with clean water, pressurise it and flush the system by spraying until the water runs clear. This prevents product residue from sitting in the seals and wand between uses, which extends the life of the pump considerably. Store with the pressure released.
