The CCS Heavy Cutting Pad is designed exclusively for DA (dual-action) and random orbital polishers. It is not intended for rotary machines. The 6.5 inch pad fits a standard 6 inch backing plate.
What backing plate size does the 6 inch CCS pad need?
The 6.5 inch x 0.875 inch pad is sized to fit a 6 inch backing plate. Lake Country also offers the pad in a 3.5 inch (fits 3 inch plate) and a 5.5 inch (fits 5 inch plate) if you need a different size.
How do the CCS pockets actually help with compound?
Conventional foam absorbs compound quickly, trapping most of it below the working surface where it does nothing. The CCS pockets are partially closed foam cells that hold compound in reserve and release it gradually as you work. The result is a more consistent cut across the whole section without having to re-apply product as often.
Does the CCS pad run cooler than a standard flat foam pad?
Yes. Because the pockets reduce the total foam-to-paint contact area, there is less friction and therefore less heat generated during the pass. This matters especially on dark paint or thin clear coats where heat build-up can cause problems.
What compounds and polishes work with this pad?
Any compound formulated for DA use will work with the CCS cutting pad. Heavier cutting compounds are the natural match for a cutting pad at this level. Follow the compound manufacturer's recommendation for DA machine speed and section size.
How do I prime the pad before use?
Apply a small amount of compound to the face of the pad and spread it across the surface at low speed before your first working pass. This primes the CCS pockets and prevents the pad from burning through compound unevenly on the first section.
Can I use this pad for a single-step correction and gloss combo?
A heavy cutting pad is optimised for the correction stage - removing swirl marks, scratches and oxidation. For a refined gloss you will want to follow with a finishing or light polishing pad and a refining polish. A one-pad, one-product approach with a cutting pad will leave some micro-marring that a finishing step cleans up.
How do I clean and store the CCS pad after use?
Rinse the pad under warm running water while working the foam gently to release trapped compound. A pad cleaning brush or pad washer speeds this up. Allow it to air dry fully, face up, before storing it flat or hanging it. Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of a wet pad as this can deform the foam cells.
