What lubricant should I use with the Surface Smoother Mini?
Use a dedicated clay lubricant or a diluted quick detailer sprayed generously onto the panel. Never clay a dry surface - insufficient lubrication drags the clay and can cause marring. Keep the panel wet throughout and re-spray as needed.
Is the clay bar safe on all paint types, including dark and black paint?
Yes. Used correctly with adequate lubrication and light to medium pressure, the Surface Smoother Mini is safe on all painted surfaces including dark and black paint. Work in a shaded area so the lubricant doesn't dry out mid-panel.
Can I use it on glass, wheels and plastic trim?
The clay works well on glass to remove bonded water spots, industrial fallout and overspray. It can also be used on bare metal wheels. Exercise caution on porous or textured plastic trim, as clay can stick to rough surfaces and be difficult to remove.
How do I know when to fold or replace the clay?
Fold the clay to a clean face whenever the working surface looks visibly dirty or grey. The 100g bar gives you several fold cycles per session. If the clay tears or loses its pliability, discard that piece - a compromised bar can scratch rather than clean.
Does the surface need to be washed before claying?
Always wash the vehicle thoroughly first. Claying over loose dirt accelerates contamination of the bar and increases the risk of scratching. A proper two-bucket wash or snow foam pre-rinse before you clay is best practice.
