Frequently asked
What makes this shampoo different from a standard car shampoo?
Most shampoos simply clean. This one also deposits a light wax component with each wash, which builds gloss and a degree of water beading over time. It is also formulated with silver and dark paint in mind, so the optical result on those finishes is noticeably richer than a generic wash.
Can I use this on white or light-coloured cars?
Technically yes, but the formula is optimised for the depth and tonal character of silver and dark finishes. Soft99 produces a separate shampoo variant tuned for white and light colours. Using this on a white car will not cause damage, but you will get the best visual result by matching the product to your paint colour.
Will this strip my ceramic coating or paint sealant?
No. The shampoo is pH-balanced, so it cleans without aggressively stripping wax, sealant, or ceramic topper layers underneath. Regular use will not degrade a properly cured coating. The additional wax component may actually complement and top up light consumer-grade protection.
How do I dilute it for a foam cannon or foam gun?
Soft99 recommends starting with a roughly 1:10 ratio (product to water) in a foam gun and adjusting to your local water hardness and cannon setup. For a traditional bucket wash, a small squirt into 10 litres of water is sufficient to produce a dense, lubricating lather.
What pad or mitt should I use with this shampoo?
A quality microfibre or lambswool wash mitt works best. The shampoo produces enough lubrication to make a plush mitt glide safely across the paint. Avoid abrasive sponges, which compress grit against the surface regardless of how good the shampoo is.
How long does the wax protection last from a single wash?
Each individual wash lays down a very thin wax deposit - think of it as cumulative protection rather than a standalone wax treatment. After several regular washes you will notice improved beading and a slicker feel. It is not a replacement for a dedicated wax or sealant application, but it maintains and supplements that base layer between full detail sessions.
Is this safe to use on alloy wheels and glass?
It can be used on wheels for a quick rinse, but it is not formulated as a dedicated wheel cleaner and will not cut through heavy brake dust or iron fallout. For those, a proper decon product is the right tool. On glass it will clean effectively, though a dedicated glass cleaner gives a streak-free finish more reliably.
What finish should I expect after drying?
After a thorough rinse and a quality drying towel, dark and silver panels come up with noticeably enhanced depth and a slick, smooth feel. Water beading improves progressively with repeated use as the wax layer accumulates. There is no white residue or streaking on dark paint when the shampoo is rinsed properly.
