Product Description

Soft99 Super Black is a dedicated restoration agent that brings faded, greyed-out plastic and rubber trim back to a rich, deep black - and keeps it there with a durable protective coating.

Ideal for:

- Faded exterior bumpers and body mouldings

- Door rubbing strips, window seals, and weather stripping

- Unpainted plastic trim panels and skirts

- Rubber surrounds and exterior accent pieces

Features

- Deep black restoration on oxidised and faded plastic and rubber surfaces

- Leaves a protective coating that resists UV degradation and water

- Non-greasy finish - no oily slick or transfer onto paint

- Applicator sponge included for precise, controlled coverage

- Formulated for exterior use on a wide range of plastic and rubber types

Apply a thin, even layer with the included sponge, allow it to penetrate for a few minutes, then wipe away any excess with a clean microfibre. The result is a uniform, satin-to-gloss black finish that makes neglected trim look factory-fresh.

Questions

Frequently asked

What surfaces can I use Super Black on?

Super Black is formulated for unpainted exterior plastic and rubber - bumpers, body mouldings, door rubbing strips, window seals, weather stripping, and similar trim pieces. Avoid applying it to painted surfaces, glass, or interior components where a non-greasy finish is critical.

How do I apply Super Black?

Start with a clean, dry surface - remove any dirt, grease, or old dressing first. Apply a thin, even coat using the included applicator sponge. Work it into the surface with light pressure, allow it to sit for two to three minutes so the formula penetrates, then buff away any excess with a clean microfibre cloth. A single coat is often enough; heavily faded trim may benefit from a second application once the first has dried.

How long does the finish last?

Durability depends on sun exposure, washing frequency, and the condition of the trim. Under normal use, the coating typically holds for several weeks to a couple of months before a top-up is needed. UV-heavy environments will shorten this, so periodic reapplication keeps the trim looking its best.

Do I need to decontaminate the trim before applying?

Yes - for best results, wash and dry the trim thoroughly before application. If there is old silicone-based dressing, wax, or significant oxidation residue, wipe the surface down with an IPA solution first. A clean substrate lets the product bond properly and gives a more even finish.

Can Super Black be used on tyres or rubber hoses?

It is designed for exterior trim plastic and rubber rather than tyres or under-bonnet rubber hoses. For tyres, a dedicated tyre dressing is the better choice. On engine bay rubber, check compatibility first as heat cycles and chemical exposure differ significantly from exterior trim conditions.

Will it stain or mark adjacent paintwork?

Super Black is formulated to avoid the greasy bleed that cheaper trim dressings leave on paint. That said, apply it carefully and avoid getting it onto painted panels. If any does land on paint, wipe it off promptly with a damp microfibre before it dries.

Can I layer Super Black over a ceramic coating on trim?

If the trim already has a ceramic or semi-permanent coating, Super Black may not bond as effectively since those coatings are designed to resist chemical uptake. On uncoated or lightly dressed plastic and rubber, it bonds well. It works best as a stand-alone restorer rather than a top coat over durable coatings.

What finish does Super Black leave?

The finish sits between satin and a mild gloss - closer to the factory OEM look of new plastic trim rather than a wet, high-sheen tyre-dressing shine. This makes it look natural and appropriate on most vehicles, including those with textured or matt plastic trim panels.

Trim on the bakkie's bumper had gone that chalky grey - one coat of this and it's back to proper black. Clean, even finish with no oily marks on the paint next to it.

Does what it says. The window seals and door mouldings on my hatch look factory-fresh again. Packaging from Detailer SA was neat and the sponge applicator is a nice touch. Only gripe is it needs a top-up after a few washes.
Marlize N. Verified buyer
Faded plastic is the one thing that ages a car fastest. This fixed it properly - satin finish, no greasiness, and three weeks later it still looks good.
