Frequently asked
Can I use the wash sponge on a ceramic-coated car?
Yes. The open-cell foam is soft enough to use on ceramic-coated and PPF-wrapped surfaces without disturbing the coating. Just make sure you rinse it well between panels to flush out any trapped grit, which is the main cause of wash marring.
What shampoo should I use with the Soft99 sponge?
Any pH-neutral car shampoo works well. If your car is coated, stick to a coating-safe shampoo to avoid stripping the protection. Work with plenty of suds so the sponge glides across the surface rather than dragging dry.
Is the drying cloth safe on dark or black paint?
Yes. The high-pile microfibre is designed to be gentle on paint, including dark and black colours where light swirls and buffer trails show up most. Use light, overlapping strokes rather than heavy pressure, and the cloth will pull the water up into the pile without scratching.
Can I use the drying cloth after a decon wash with iron remover or clay?
Absolutely. Once you have rinsed the car thoroughly after decon, the drying cloth is fine to use. Just make sure all decon product residue is fully rinsed off before drying, as some fallout removers can be aggressive if left on paint.
How do I wash the sponge and drying cloth after use?
Rinse the sponge well after each wash, squeeze out excess water and allow it to air dry. The drying cloth can be machine-washed on a gentle cycle with no fabric softener - softener clogs the microfibre and kills its absorption. Tumble dry on low or air dry flat.
Can the sponge be used on wheels and tyres?
We would recommend keeping it for painted bodywork only. Brake dust and tyre compounds are abrasive and can contaminate the sponge, which would then transfer that contamination back onto your paint. Keep a separate dedicated wheel brush and applicator for the wheel area.
Will the drying cloth leave lint on the paint?
No. The cloth is made from a lint-free microfibre weave, so you should get a clean, streak-free result. If you do notice any lint after washing the cloth, check that you are not washing it with other fabrics that shed fibre, and avoid fabric softener which can cause the pile to mat.
Does the sponge work for a two-bucket wash method?
Yes, and that is the best way to use it. The two-bucket method, one bucket for your shampoo solution and one for rinsing the sponge, keeps contamination out of your wash solution and significantly reduces the chance of introducing swirl marks. The grip section on the sponge makes it easy to control in both buckets.
