Frequently asked
Which paint colours is this wax designed for?
This product is formulated for pearl and metallic paint shades - including white pearl, beige, silver, silver-grey pearl, silver-grey metallic, gold, bronze, light blue, yellow, pink and similar tones. If your car is a solid dark or black colour, Soft99 makes a separate variant specifically matched for those paints.
Can I apply this wax by hand, or do I need a machine polisher?
Hand application is perfectly fine and is how this wax is designed to be used. Apply with the foam applicator included in the tin, work in small overlapping sections, allow the product to haze lightly, then remove with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. A machine polisher is not required.
How long should I leave it before buffing off?
Wait until the product hazes to a thin, matte film before buffing - typically two to five minutes in normal conditions. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or on a hot panel, as the product will dry too quickly and become harder to remove. Work in the shade or in a garage for best results.
Will this wax actually hide scratches, or just fill them temporarily?
The wax contains fillers that mask fine swirl marks and light scratches by filling them in, which significantly improves how the finish looks. This is not a permanent correction - deep scratches that catch a fingernail will not disappear. For those, a cutting compound or professional polishing step is needed first. The scratch-filling effect does diminish over time and with washing.
How long does the protection last?
As a carnauba-style paste wax, protection typically lasts two to three months under normal use and regular washing. Reapplication every few months keeps the paint looking sharp and maintains the protective layer. If you want longer-lasting protection, a ceramic coating or paint sealant applied over a freshly corrected surface will outperform any wax on durability.
Can I use this over a ceramic coating or paint sealant?
Yes, this wax can be used as a topper over a cured ceramic coating or paint sealant to add a layer of gloss and light protection. Make sure the base layer is fully cured before applying. Keep in mind that the scratch-filling properties of the wax will not improve a coating's scratch resistance - that benefit applies to bare or traditionally sealed paint.
Is this product safe to use on plastic trim, rubber seals or glass?
This wax is designed for clear-coated painted surfaces. Avoid applying it heavily to unpainted black plastic trim, as it may leave a white residue that is difficult to remove. It can be applied carefully to glass if needed, but is primarily formulated for paint. Rubber seals should be avoided as the wax offers no conditioning benefit to rubber and can leave residue in textured surfaces.
How much product should I use per application?
A little goes a long way with a paste wax. Apply a thin, even layer using the foam applicator - using too much product makes buffing harder and does not improve the result. A 180 g tin is sufficient for multiple full-car applications, making it good value for regular maintenance use.
