Frequently asked
How do I apply New Scratch Clear Wax Mirror Finish?
Work on a cool, clean, and dry panel out of direct sun. Apply a small amount of wax to the supplied foam applicator or a soft microfibre applicator pad and work it into the paint using straight, overlapping strokes. Allow the product to haze - usually a few minutes depending on ambient temperature - then buff off the residue with a clean, plush microfibre cloth. Flip the cloth frequently to avoid reintroducing residue.
Can I use this on paint colours other than black or dark?
The formula is specifically tuned to complement dark and black paint - the micro-abrasives and optical fillers are calibrated for those tones. While it won't harm lighter colours, the scratch-hiding and gloss-depth benefits are most pronounced on dark basecoats and solid black finishes. For silver, white, or light pearl paint, other Soft99 wax variants may be a better match.
What kind of scratches will it remove or hide?
This wax targets fine surface scratches, light swirl marks, and minor wash marring that sit in the clear coat. It will not remove deep scratches that you can feel with your fingernail or any damage that has broken through the clear coat into the base colour. Think of it as light correction plus protection in one step rather than a substitute for a cutting compound or machine polishing on heavier damage.
Can I apply this by machine polisher?
Soft99 New Scratch Clear Wax is formulated for hand application. If you use a dual-action polisher, keep the speed low and use a soft finishing pad to avoid burning through the wax prematurely. Machine application can improve coverage uniformity but is not required - the product is designed to perform well by hand.
How long does the protective wax layer last?
Under normal wash and weather conditions, expect the wax protection layer to last approximately one to three months depending on how frequently the car is washed and its exposure to the elements. Reapplication is straightforward - clean the surface and apply a fresh coat whenever water stops beading and sheeting cleanly. This wax is not a replacement for a dedicated long-term sealant or ceramic coating if durability is the primary goal.
Can I layer this wax over a ceramic coating or paint sealant?
It is generally not recommended to apply an abrasive-containing wax directly on top of a ceramic coating, as the micro-abrasives can gradually diminish the coating's hydrophobic layer. If the car has a ceramic coating in good condition, use a dedicated ceramic wax topper or maintenance spray instead. On factory paint or paint that has been sealed with a conventional polymer sealant, this wax works well as a top layer.
Is New Scratch Clear Wax safe on plastic trim, rubber seals, and glass?
The product is designed for painted bodywork. Avoid working it into bare plastic trim or rubber seals as residue can leave white staining that is difficult to remove from porous surfaces. If overspray lands on trim or glass, wipe it off promptly before it hazes. Mask or apply carefully around trim edges if needed.
Do I need to decontaminate the paint before using this product?
Yes, always start with a clean, decontaminated surface. Wash the car thoroughly, then run a clay bar or clay mitt over the paint to remove bonded contamination like fallout, tar, and industrial deposits. Applying wax over contaminated paint traps that contamination and reduces both the correction and protection results. A properly prepped surface also makes buffing off the wax significantly easier.
