Frequently asked
What metal surfaces can I use Soft99 Metal Polish on?
It works well on chrome, stainless steel, aluminium and most bare or lightly coated metals. Good for automotive trim, exhaust tips, wheel centres and household metal items like cutlery and fixtures. Avoid using it on anodised or painted surfaces as the abrasive can cut through the finish.
Can I use this on my car's chrome trim and bumpers?
Yes, it is well suited to chrome automotive trim, bumper strips and badges. Apply with a soft microfibre or cotton cloth, work in small sections and buff off cleanly. For heavily pitted or deeply corroded chrome, you may need multiple passes or a more aggressive metal restorer first.
Do I need a machine polisher, or can I apply this by hand?
Soft99 Metal Polish is designed for hand application. A soft cloth or microfibre pad is all you need. Work in small circular motions, let the abrasive do the cutting, then wipe off the residue and buff to a shine. A machine is not required and is generally unnecessary for this type of polish.
How do I get the best results on exhaust tips?
Make sure the exhaust tip is cool and clean before starting. Apply a small amount of polish to a cloth and work it around the tip in circular motions. Heat discolouration and carbon deposits may need a second or third pass. Finish with a clean dry cloth to buff up the shine.
Is there a flash time or cure time I need to wait for?
No cure time is required. You apply the polish, work it in while it is still wet or just slightly hazy, and then buff it off immediately. There is no need to let it sit or cure before wiping. Work in manageable sections to avoid the product drying too hard on the surface.
Can I apply a ceramic coating or sealant over the top after polishing?
Yes, and it is a good idea on automotive pieces like exhaust tips and wheel trim. After polishing and removing all residue, the clean bare metal surface is ready to receive a metal-compatible sealant or ceramic coating. This will protect the finish and slow re-tarnishing significantly.
How much product do I need for a typical application?
A small pea-sized amount covers a decent area - a little goes a long way with a fine abrasive polish like this. For a set of four exhaust tips or a full set of chrome door handles, a few grams of product is more than enough. Do not over-apply; working with less product gives you better control and a cleaner result.
Will it remove deep scratches or heavy pitting from metal?
Soft99 Metal Polish is a fine abrasive, so it handles light to moderate tarnish, surface oxidation and minor marks well. Deep scratches and heavy pitting are beyond what a polish like this can correct - those typically need wet sanding or a more aggressive compound first, followed by this polish to refine the surface.
