Frequently asked
How do I apply Glaco Q?
Clean and dry the glass thoroughly first - any contamination will trap the product under the layer and cause smearing. Apply Glaco Q directly to the glass using the built-in or supplied applicator, spread it evenly across the surface, then buff off with a clean microfibre before it hazes. No long flash time is required, but work panel by panel so the product does not over-dry in direct sun.
Which surfaces can I use Glaco Q on?
Glaco Q is formulated for automotive glass only - windscreens, rear windows, side glass, and wing mirrors. Do not apply it to painted surfaces, plastic trim, or rubber seals, as it is not intended to bond to those substrates and may leave residue that is difficult to remove.
Does it work on glass that already has a ceramic or fluorine coating?
Glaco Q can be used as a top-up on previously treated glass, but its performance will depend on how much life remains in the existing coating. If the current coating is still beading well, adding Glaco Q on top offers marginal benefit. It is best used on bare or lightly treated glass, or when an older coating has started to break down.
How long does Glaco Q last?
Durability depends on your local conditions, wiper frequency, and how often the glass is cleaned. Under normal use, expect the hydrophobic effect to remain noticeable for several weeks up to a couple of months. Applying two coats in the same session and keeping the glass clean with a pH-neutral product between applications will extend the performance.
Can I apply it in direct sunlight or on a hot windscreen?
Avoid hot glass and direct sunlight when applying Glaco Q. Heat accelerates the product's drying time significantly, making it much harder to buff off cleanly and increasing the risk of streaks or haze. Work in the shade or during the cooler parts of the day, and ensure the glass temperature is comfortable to the touch before you start.
Will it affect wiper blade performance?
A correctly applied and fully buffed Glaco Q layer should not cause wiper chatter or smearing. However, if there is any residual product left on the glass, wipers can drag and streak. Make sure all excess is removed with a clean microfibre after application. If chatter develops, wipe the glass down with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.
How much coverage does one bottle provide?
Coverage varies by application technique and the size of the vehicle, but a single bottle of Glaco Q is typically sufficient for the full windscreen, rear glass, and side windows of a standard passenger car, with product remaining for a second coat or a follow-up application. Vans, bakkies, and larger SUVs with significant glass area will use product faster.
Does Glaco Q improve visibility enough to reduce wiper use?
Yes, that is the practical purpose of the product. Once the hydrophobic layer is active, water forms tight beads that are pushed off by airflow at highway speeds, often removing the need for wipers above roughly 60-80 km/h. In slower city driving or heavy rain, wipers are still recommended, but the treated glass clears faster and stays clearer between wipes.
