Frequently asked
What surfaces can I use this tape on?
The Soft99 Crepe Masking Tape is safe on painted panels, glass, plastic trim, rubber seals and bare metal. It is the kind of tape you reach for when masking during ceramic coating, sealant work, paint correction or bodyshop touch-ups.
Will it leave adhesive residue on my paint?
No. The adhesive is formulated for clean removal from automotive surfaces without leaving a sticky residue behind. As with any tape, avoid leaving it on in direct sunlight for extended periods, as prolonged heat can affect any adhesive's release behaviour.
Can it handle curves and tight panel contours?
Yes. The crepe paper construction is the key here - it stretches and flexes slightly, so you can work it around door edges, bumper curves and A-pillars without the tape buckling or lifting at the edges.
Is this suitable for ceramic coating application masking?
Absolutely. Many detailers use crepe masking tape to protect trim, rubber and glass during ceramic coating prep and application. It gives you a clean edge to work up to and peels off without disturbing the coating once it has flashed off.
Can I use it for PPF or vinyl installs?
Yes, it works well for masking adjacent panels or trim during PPF and vinyl wrap installs. It is not a stretchy installation tape designed to hold film in tension, but for protecting surfaces you are not wrapping, it does the job cleanly.
How long can I leave it on before it becomes difficult to remove?
For normal detailing work, removing it within the same session or within a day is fine. If left on for several days, especially in heat or direct sun, removal can become more difficult. Best practice is to peel it off as soon as the product you applied has cured or dried.
Can I tear it by hand or do I need a tape gun or scissors?
You can tear Soft99 Crepe Masking Tape cleanly by hand. The crepe paper construction tears predictably, which is useful when you are mid-correction or mid-coating and do not want to put down your tools.
Is it useful during paint decontamination work?
Yes. Detailers commonly use masking tape to protect trim and rubber seals during iron fallout remover or tar solvent application, where you want to keep aggressive chemicals off sensitive surfaces. The Soft99 tape holds firm enough to act as a barrier without damaging what it is stuck to.
