What backing plate and pad size does the LH19E accept?
The LH19E uses a standard 5/16 UNC spindle thread, compatible with Rupes backing plates in 150mm and 180mm diameters, as well as most aftermarket rotary backing plates with the same thread. Check your chosen backing plate's thread spec before fitting.
Is this polisher suitable for beginners or is it strictly for professionals?
The LH19E is a rotary polisher, so it carries more correction risk than a dual-action machine on thin or delicate paint. That said, the variable speed dial with click-stop feedback and the vibration-absorbing loop handle give you a lot of control. Detailers moving from DA to rotary will find the ergonomics forgiving, but a rotary still demands respect - start slow, keep the pad flat and work in sections.
What surfaces can I use the LH19E on?
The LH19E is suited to automotive clear coat, single-stage paint, gel coat on marine craft, and refinished panels. With the right pad and product selection you can also work on painted plastics and fibreglass. Avoid using a rotary on thin, heat-sensitive wraps or PPF without proper experience, as rotary friction builds heat faster than a DA.
Can the LH19E be used for finishing as well as cutting?
Yes. Dial the speed down, swap to a soft foam finishing pad and a finishing polish, and the LH19E produces an excellent pre-ceramic or pre-wax finish. Most detailers use it for the cutting stage and follow up with a DA for final finishing, but it handles both steps capably.
What is the cord length and do I need an extension lead?
The LH19E ships with a heavy-duty 9m cord. That is long enough to reach around a full-size vehicle when plugged into a single wall outlet, so you can complete a full correction job without dragging an extension lead across the bay.
Is the side handle included in the standard kit?
The loop handle is included as standard with every LH19E. The soft-grip side handle is included with the DLX Kit versions. If you purchase the STD kit and want the side handle, check whether Rupes offers it as an accessory add-on.
How do I control heat build-up during correction?
Keep the machine moving at all times and avoid dwelling on one spot. Use the variable speed dial to start at a lower RPM when working on thin paint or tight panel edges. A quality cutting compound with good lubrication also helps manage heat. Check your pad regularly - a loaded or dried-out pad generates far more heat than a clean one.
Which compounds and polishes work best with the LH19E?
The LH19E pairs well with any professional-grade compound or polish - Rupes's own Zephir and Keramik lines are optimised for it, but it is not locked to Rupes chemistry. Match your compound aggression to the defect depth: a heavy cutting compound for deep scratches and oxidation, a medium polish for swirl correction, and a finishing polish for final refinement before applying a wax, sealant or ceramic coating.
