Frequently asked
What surfaces can I apply NanoShield Graphene Ceramic Coating to?
It bonds well to clear coat, single-stage paint, glass, polished alloys, PPF and hard plastic trim. Avoid porous or raw rubber - dress those separately. Always decon and correct the surface before coating.
Do I need to machine polish the paint before applying?
Yes. The coating locks in whatever finish is already there, so paint correction must come first. Remove swirl marks, scratches and oxidation before you coat. Any defects still present after cure will be sealed under the coating.
What is the flash time and full cure time?
Flash time is roughly 2-3 minutes per panel at 20-25°C - look for the coating to start hazying before you level it. Full cure takes 7 days. Keep the vehicle dry for the first 24 hours and avoid aggressive chemicals or machine washing until the 7-day cure is complete.
How long does the protection last?
With proper prep and maintenance, a single coat provides up to 2 years of protection. Adding a second coat deepens gloss and extends durability further. Annual top-up with a SiO2 maintenance spray will also help maximise longevity.
Can I apply this by hand or do I need a machine?
Application is by hand using a ceramic suede or foam applicator block - no machine needed for the coating itself. The surface prep (decon and polish) may require a machine polisher, but the coating goes on by hand in thin, even passes.
How much product do I need for a full car?
A typical 50 ml bottle is enough for one full coat on a medium-sized sedan or hatchback. Larger vehicles like SUVs, bakkies or vans may require more. Working in a cool, shaded environment and keeping coats thin will help you get maximum coverage from each bottle.
Can I layer it with other coatings or toppers?
Yes. Once fully cured, you can layer a second coat of NanoShield over the first for added depth and durability. It also works well under a graphene or SiO2 spray topper applied during maintenance washes to refresh hydrophobic performance between coating cycles.
What gloss and finish should I expect after cure?
Expect a deep, wet-look gloss, particularly on dark colours. The graphene component adds slickness and an anti-static quality that keeps dust from sticking to the surface as readily as standard SiO2 coatings. Water beads tightly and sheets at low speeds.
