What surfaces can D2 Check be used on?
D2 Check is designed for use on painted bodywork. It is ideal for cleared paint surfaces before ceramic coating or sealant application. As with any IPA-based product, avoid prolonged contact with bare plastic trim, rubber seals and bare unprotected metal, and do not apply to hot panels in direct sun.
Do I need to dilute D2 Check before use?
No dilution is needed. D2 Check is a ready-to-use formulation. Simply apply directly to a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth and wipe the panel. Do not spray directly onto the surface if the car is in a dusty environment, as this can introduce contamination before you coat.
How does D2 Check differ from using straight isopropyl alcohol?
The key difference is evaporation rate. Straight IPA flashes very quickly, which can leave residue partially lifted. Innovacar engineered D2 Check to evaporate more slowly, giving the solvent longer contact time with the surface so it lifts wax, polish oils and fillers more thoroughly before it disappears.
When in the detailing process should I use D2 Check?
Use it after polishing and before applying any ceramic coating, paint sealant or spray wax. It removes polish oils and wax residue that standard washing cannot fully strip. You can also use it after coating application to correct flash marks or high spots left by the coating drying too fast in heat.
Will D2 Check strip a ceramic coating that is already fully cured?
No. Once a ceramic coating has fully cured, D2 Check will not strip it. It is effective at correcting fresh, uncured flash marks and high spots that appear shortly after application, before the coating has hardened. On a fully cured coating it can be used as a light degreaser without damaging the protection.
How long should I wait after applying D2 Check before applying a coating?
Allow the panel to flash completely - the surface should look dry and uniform with no visible wet patches. Under normal workshop conditions this takes roughly 1 to 2 minutes per panel, though the slower evaporation rate of D2 Check means it takes slightly longer than straight IPA. Apply your coating as soon as the panel is dry to minimise the chance of fresh contamination settling.
How much product do I need per panel?
A few sprays or a small pour onto a folded microfibre is sufficient per panel. You need enough to saturate the cloth lightly without soaking it. A 500ml bottle will typically cover a full vehicle several times over when used as a pre-coating panel wipe, or a large number of spot corrections.
Can D2 Check be used to verify polishing results on dark or black paint?
Yes, and it is particularly useful on dark paint where residual polish fillers can hide the true state of the correction. Wiping the panel with D2 Check removes those fillers and reveals whether swirl marks and scratches have been genuinely corrected or only masked. This helps you decide whether another polishing pass is needed before the coating goes on.
