Most ceramic coatings add gloss - exactly what a matte or satin finish cannot have. Because C1 does not significantly boost gloss, it is one of the few long-duration coatings you can apply to a matte lacquer without altering the look. What surfaces can C1 Crystal Lacquer be applied to?
C1 is formulated for automotive paintwork, including both gloss and matte finishes. Because it does not add significant gloss, it is particularly well suited to matte lacquers where most ceramic coatings would alter the appearance. Avoid applying to rubber trim, plastics not designed for coatings, or glass without specific preparation.
What is the flash time and how do I know when to wipe it off?
Remove the residue immediately after spreading C1 on each panel - do not allow it to flash dry on the surface. If you leave residue and it cures fully, you will need to re-polish that area and reapply the coating. Work panel by panel and keep at least two clean MF1 cloths on hand so you can rotate them quickly before product cures into the cloth fibres.
How long does the coating need to cure before the car can get wet?
Leave the vehicle indoors for at least 12 hours after application before exposing it to rain, wash or any other moisture. Applying above 5°C in a shaded, indoor environment with no direct sunlight gives the coating the best conditions to begin its cure cycle.
How long does C1 Crystal Lacquer last?
C1 is rated at up to 5 years durability. When applied by a Gtechniq Accredited Detailer (GAD), the coating comes with a formal 5 year guarantee. Results depend on correct surface preparation, application conditions and ongoing maintenance wash technique.
What application temperature is required?
Only apply C1 at temperatures of 5°C and above. Work indoors and out of direct sunlight. Direct sun accelerates curing on the panel surface and makes residue removal significantly harder, so a controlled indoor bay is the right environment for this coating.
Can C1 be layered with other Gtechniq products?
Yes. C1 is designed to sit within the Gtechniq protection system. It is commonly topped with EXO v4 or C2 Liquid Crystal to add hydrophobicity and slickness on top of the hardness and scratch resistance that C1 provides. Always allow adequate cure time between layers and follow Gtechniq's specific layering guidance for each product pairing.
How much product does each application use, and how do I manage the pad?
Soak the applicator pad with several drops of product to begin, then apply to one panel at a time. Replace the application pad after every 3 to 4 panel applications to avoid dragging cured product across fresh paint. Keep the bottle capped while working to prevent premature curing in the bottle.
How do I care for the microfibre cloths after application?
Place used MF1 cloths straight into water as soon as you finish the application. Wash them as soon as possible - if C1 cures in the fibres it will crystallise, making the cloths stiff and unusable. Use at least two cloths per panel and rotate them quickly so product does not have time to cure in the cloth while you are still working.
