What surfaces can I use the AP1 pads on?
The AP1 pads are suitable for paint, glass, Perspex, plastic trim and rubber. Gtechniq specifically recommends them for applying G5 Water Repellent Coating to glass and Perspex, but they work equally well for spreading sealants and coatings across bodywork and trim.
Are these pads safe on freshly corrected or coated paint?
Yes. The 100% cotton construction is extremely soft, so there is no risk of introducing swirl marks or scratches when applying a coating to a corrected surface. Always ensure the paint is clean and decontaminated before application.
How much product should I load onto the pad?
Use a small, pea-sized amount per panel section. The cotton fibres absorb and release product evenly, so you don't need to flood the pad. Thin, overlapping passes give you the most uniform coating layer and avoid product build-up at the edges.
Can I wash and reuse the AP1 pads?
These pads are designed as single-use or limited-use applicators. Once a coating has cured into the fibres it is very difficult to remove fully, and reusing a contaminated pad can cause uneven application. Having a 10-pack on hand means you always have a fresh pad available.
Are these pads compatible with all Gtechniq products?
Gtechniq designed the AP1 pads for use with their coating and sealant range, including glass repellents, paint sealants and surface coatings. Always check the individual product's application guide to confirm the recommended applicator, as some ceramic coatings specify a suede or foam block instead.
What is the flash time when using these pads to apply a coating?
Flash time depends on the specific Gtechniq coating you are applying, not the pad itself. Refer to the coating product's instructions for flash time and cure window. The AP1 pads do not affect flash time - they simply deliver product to the surface.
Can I use these pads by hand or do I need a machine?
The AP1 pads are hand-application pads. They are not designed to be attached to a machine polisher. For hand application of coatings and sealants, they provide excellent control over product placement and layering.
How many pads do I get per pack, and is that enough for a full car?
Each pack contains 10 pads. For most coating applications you would use one pad per panel or per product, so 10 pads is comfortably enough to coat a full vehicle with product left over for touch-ups or a second car. Stock an extra pack if you are doing multiple vehicles in one session.
