What surfaces can I use Reef on?
Reef is designed for boat hulls and metal surfaces including windshields, stanchions, ladders, roll cages and chrome fittings. It is suitable for use on fibreglass, GRP and most marine-grade metals. Avoid prolonged contact with aluminium, linoleum and painted surfaces, as the acidic formula can cause damage if left on too long.
Do I need to dilute Reef before applying?
No. Reef is used pure, straight from the bottle. Do not dilute it. Apply it directly to the surface you want to treat and allow it to work before rinsing.
How long should I leave Reef on the surface?
The recommended dwell time is 5 minutes. After that, rinse thoroughly with fresh water. On very stubborn deposits you can repeat the application, using a brush or sponge to help lift the contamination, but do not leave it on significantly longer than recommended, especially near aluminium or paint.
Can Reef remove barnacles?
Yes. Reef is formulated to tackle barnacle residue along with limescale, algae, mucilage, rust, waterline staining and saltpetre efflorescence. On very heavy barnacle build-up, a second application combined with brush agitation will get the best result.
Is Reef safe to use near the water?
Fra-Ber has formulated Reef without added phosphates, EDTA or NTA - three substances commonly flagged as environmentally hazardous in marine cleaning products. The product may contain traces of these substances, but they are not intentionally added. Always follow local marina regulations when rinsing and ensure run-off is managed responsibly.
Can I use Reef on painted boat surfaces?
Reef should be kept away from painted surfaces where possible. The acidic formulation can affect paint if left on for an extended period. If contact with paint is unavoidable, rinse quickly and thoroughly. It is best used on bare hull gelcoat, unpainted fibreglass and metal fittings rather than topcoat paint.
What types of watercraft is Reef suitable for?
Reef is suited to all common recreational and commercial watercraft including motorboats, sailboats, dinghies, tenders and RIBs. As long as the surface is compatible (fibreglass, GRP, stainless steel, chrome), the product can be applied.
Do I need any special equipment to apply Reef?
