The Pro Wool Cutting Pad is designed for dual action (DA) polishers. It is not recommended for rotary machines, as the high torque of a rotary combined with wool's aggressive cut can generate excessive heat and risk paint damage.
What compounds work best with this pad?
Pair it with a heavy or medium-cut compound for stage-one correction. The pad's natural wool fibres work efficiently with water-based compounds. Avoid thin finishing polishes on this pad as the aggressive cut will not refine them properly — reserve those for a foam or microfibre finishing pad in a second stage.
How do I prepare the pad before first use?
Blow the pad out with compressed air to remove any loose fibres from manufacturing. Then prime the wool face by working a small amount of compound into the fibres by hand or with one slow machine pass on an inconspicuous area. This conditions the wool and significantly reduces shedding during your first correction session.
Will this pad scratch or burn the paint?
The open-cell foam layer and the pad's ventilated wool construction help keep heat low during polishing. However, no cutting pad is entirely risk-free on sensitive or thin paintwork. Keep your DA speed in the mid range, use overlapping passes, and keep the pad moving. Test on a small area first if you are unsure about the paint's condition or thickness.
How do I clean and maintain the pad?
Brush or blow out compound residue with compressed air between sections during use. After a session, rinse the pad under warm water while working the fibres with your fingers until the water runs clear, then allow it to dry naturally, wool face down, away from direct sunlight. Avoid machine washing or tumble drying, as heat can distort the foam layer and damage the hook-and-loop backing.
Is this pad suitable for use on PPF or vinyl wraps?
This pad is designed for clear coat correction on painted surfaces. Using a heavy wool cutting pad on PPF or vinyl is not recommended, as the aggressive abrasion can damage the film surface and edge seals. Use a dedicated PPF-safe foam pad with an appropriate polish for those substrates.
How much shedding should I expect?
Some initial shedding is normal with natural wool pads and is not a defect. Blowing the pad out with compressed air and priming it as described before the first use will reduce shedding considerably. By the second or third use, shedding typically stops altogether as the fibres have bedded in.
When should I replace the pad?
Replace the pad when the wool face becomes matted, compacted or visibly thinned, or when you notice a significant drop in cutting performance despite proper priming and cleaning. Inspect the hook-and-loop backing as well: if it is no longer gripping securely or the foam layer shows signs of delamination, it is time for a new pad.
