Frequently asked
What metals can I use this polish on?
Soft99 Silver & Copper Polish is formulated for silver, copper and brass surfaces - including solid metal items and lightly plated pieces. It works well on jewellery, cutlery, ornaments and decorative hardware. Avoid using it on anodised aluminium or heavily lacquered metals where the surface coating should not be broken.
Is it safe on silver-plated items?
Yes, when used with a light touch. The formula is not heavily abrasive, so it's suitable for silver-plated cutlery and decorative pieces. Use a soft cloth, apply minimal pressure, and don't over-work the surface - especially on thin plating.
How do I apply the polish?
Put a small amount onto a soft, clean cloth - a microfibre or cotton cloth works well. Work it over the tarnished area using gentle circular motions. Let the compound do the work rather than pressing hard. Once the tarnish lifts, buff off the residue with a separate clean cloth to reveal the shine.
Does it need to flash or cure before buffing off?
No curing time required. This is a polish, not a coating. Work it in, then buff it straight off once you've covered the surface. There's no flash time to wait for.
How long will the shine last after polishing?
That depends on how the item is stored and used. Polished silver and copper will naturally re-tarnish over time when exposed to air and moisture. Storing items in airtight pouches or display cases slows re-tarnishing considerably. Regular light polishing maintains the finish far more easily than letting heavy tarnish build up.
Can I use this on car interior metal trim?
It can be used on bare metal interior accents - copper-toned trim pieces or silver-finished metal hardware inside a vehicle. Avoid contact with painted or plastic surfaces and test on a small inconspicuous area first, particularly on coated or lacquered interior trim.
How much product do I need per item?
Very little. The formula is concentrated. A pea-sized amount is enough for a set of cutlery or a piece of jewellery. Using too much just creates more residue to buff off without improving the result.
Can I use this on gemstone-set jewellery?
Use caution. The polish is designed for bare metal surfaces. Avoid getting it onto porous gemstones such as pearls, opals or turquoise, as the chemistry can affect them. Hard stones like diamonds or sapphires are generally less sensitive, but it's always best to apply carefully around any stone settings and wipe away promptly.
