Frequently asked
What type of scratches is the Kizu Pen suitable for?
The Kizu Pen works best on stone chips and minor scratches where paint and sometimes primer have been removed, exposing bare metal or plastic. It is not designed for deep gouges that require body filler, or for large areas where a spray can or professional respray would give a better result.
How do I apply the Kizu Pen correctly?
Clean and degrease the damaged area thoroughly before you start. Shake the pen well so the pigment mixes properly, then press the tip gently to get the paint flowing. Apply in thin, controlled strokes directly into the chip or scratch. Let each layer flash off - usually a few minutes in normal conditions - before adding the next. Build up gradually rather than flooding the area in one go.
How long does each coat need to flash before I apply the next?
Allow roughly 5 to 10 minutes between coats under normal temperature and humidity. In cold or humid conditions, give it a little longer. Full cure for the final coat takes around 24 hours before the repair can be polished or topped with a clear coat.
Can I use this on bumpers and plastic trim as well as metal panels?
Yes. The Kizu Pen works on both metal panels and hard plastic bumpers. On flexible bumper material, make sure the surface is clean and lightly abraded so the paint has something to key into. It is not intended for rubber trim or textured cladding.
Will the white colour match my car's factory paint exactly?
Soft99 formulates the Kizu Pen white to closely match common factory white tones, but paint fades and shifts over time, so a perfect blend is not always guaranteed on older vehicles. For the tightest colour match, check your car's paint code and compare it against Soft99's colour range - they produce multiple white variants to cover different shades.
Do I need a clear coat on top after using the Kizu Pen?
The touch-up paint itself does not include a protective clear layer, so applying a compatible clear coat once the colour coat has fully cured is strongly recommended. This protects the repair from UV fading, water ingress, and minor abrasion, and helps blend the repaired area into the surrounding paint more naturally.
Can I polish or compound the repair once it has cured?
Yes, after a full 24-hour cure you can very gently compound or polish the repaired area to level any slight build-up and improve blending. Use a fine finishing compound rather than a heavy cut compound, and work carefully around the edges of the repair to avoid cutting through the thin touch-up layer.
How much coverage does one pen give?
Coverage depends entirely on how many chips and how large they are. For typical stone chip repairs - small nicks across a bonnet or door - one pen covers a reasonable number of individual spots. It is not intended for large panel sections. Having a second pen on hand for a vehicle with heavy chip damage is sensible.
