Product Description

Soft99 Glass Compound Z is a dedicated glass polishing compound designed to remove water spots, mineral deposits, haze and fine surface scratches from automotive glass - restoring true optical clarity without the risk of smearing or hazing associated with paint compounds used on glass.

Ideal for:

- Windscreens with stubborn water spot etching or road film haze

- Side mirrors and rear glass requiring decon and clarity restoration

- Prepping glass before applying a glass sealant or ceramic glass coating

- Professional detailers doing full correction details where glass clarity matters

Features

- Fine abrasive compound formulated specifically for automotive glass surfaces

- Cuts through water spot etching, mineral deposits and light surface scratches

- Does not leave oily residue that can smear or cause glare under lights

- Compatible with machine or hand application

- Ideal prep step before glass sealant, rain repellent or ceramic glass coating

- Developed by Soft99, Japan's leading car-care brand

Apply a small amount to a damp glass polishing pad or microfibre applicator, work in overlapping passes across the glass, then buff off with a clean microfibre cloth. For best results, follow up with a glass sealant to lock in the clarity and add water-repellency.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can I use Glass Compound Z on painted surfaces or trim?

No. Glass Compound Z is formulated specifically for glass surfaces. It should not be used on painted panels, rubber seals, plastic trim or mirror housings. Keep it on the glass only.

Is it safe to use on tinted or factory-coated glass?

Glass Compound Z is generally safe on factory-applied tinting (inside the glass) since the tint film sits on the inner surface and you'll be working the outer surface. Avoid applying it to aftermarket window tint film applied to the inside of the glass, as the abrasive may damage or cloud the film.

Can I apply this by machine or is hand application only?

Both methods work well. For light haze and water spots, hand application with a damp microfibre applicator or glass polishing pad is usually sufficient. For heavier water spot etching or more stubborn mineral deposits, a dual-action polisher on a glass-specific or light foam pad speeds up the process considerably.

How do I know when to stop working the compound?

Work the compound in overlapping passes until the product starts to break down and go slightly translucent. At that point, buff off with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and inspect under a light. If spots or haze remain, repeat the process on those areas rather than continuing to work the whole panel.

Should I apply a glass sealant or coating afterwards?

Yes, and it's strongly recommended. Glass Compound Z leaves the glass surface clean and lightly abraded, which is an ideal base for a glass sealant or ceramic glass coating to bond to. Skipping this step means the glass will pick up contamination and water spots again more quickly.

Does Glass Compound Z remove deep scratches from windscreens?

Glass Compound Z handles light surface scratches, swirl marks on glass and mild water spot etching. Deep gouges or cracks caused by stone chips are beyond what any compound can address - those require professional glass repair or replacement. If you can catch a scratch with a fingernail, it is unlikely to polish out completely.

What is the expected durability of the results?

The compound itself removes contamination and restores clarity - it does not add any protective layer. Durability of the clarity depends entirely on what you apply afterwards. Following up with a quality glass sealant typically gives several months of protection, while a ceramic glass coating extends that further and makes the glass much easier to keep clean.

How much product do I need for a full windscreen?

A little goes a long way. A pea-sized amount on your pad is enough for one working section of around 30 x 30 cm. For a full windscreen in average condition, expect to use a modest amount per session. Heavily contaminated glass may require a second pass, but avoid over-applying as excess compound is harder to buff off cleanly.

Windscreen had water spot etching from parking under a tree for months. Glass Compound Z cleared it in two passes on a DA - the optical clarity afterwards was noticeably better, especially at night with oncoming lights. Followed up with a glass sealant and it's been clean ever since.

Good product for prep work before applying a glass coating. Takes a little elbow grease on stubborn spots but buffs off cleanly with no smearing - which is more than I can say for some paint compounds I've tried on glass.
