Frequently asked
How do I apply Soft99 Glaco to my windscreen?
Clean the glass thoroughly first, removing any old repellent, water spots, or contamination - a dedicated glass cleaner or light clay is ideal before application. Apply Glaco to a dry applicator or the built-in applicator tip, spread it evenly across the glass in overlapping strokes, and allow it to flash to a light haze. Then buff off with a clean, lint-free microfibre cloth. For best results, apply a second coat once the first is fully buffed off.
What surfaces is Glaco safe to use on?
Glaco is formulated specifically for glass. It works well on windscreens, side windows, rear glass, and wing mirrors. Avoid applying it to painted surfaces, trim, or rubber seals, as it is not designed for those substrates. Keep it away from wiper blades if possible, though any residue on blades will clear after a few wipe cycles.
How long does the hydrophobic effect last?
Durability depends on how frequently the glass is washed and how often your wipers run. Under typical daily driving conditions, you can expect the beading and sheeting effect to remain strong for roughly two to three months. Applying two coats at the start will extend that noticeably. Reapply whenever beading becomes inconsistent or water begins to sheet less freely.
What flash time should I allow before buffing?
Allow Glaco to flash for approximately one to two minutes in normal ambient conditions before buffing. In cold or humid conditions it may take slightly longer. Do not leave it to cure fully on the glass before removing, as dried-on residue can be harder to buff clean and may streak.
Can I apply Glaco over an existing glass sealant or ceramic coating on glass?
It is best applied directly to bare, clean glass for maximum bonding. If there is an existing sealant or coating on the glass, Glaco will still provide some hydrophobic enhancement but the adhesion and longevity will be reduced. For the strongest result, strip any old product first using a dedicated glass polish or IPA wipe-down.
Will Glaco cause streaking or smearing on my windscreen?
If applied and buffed correctly to a clean, dry surface, Glaco should leave the glass clear without streaks. Streaking most often happens when the product is applied to a surface that still has contamination or moisture on it, or when too much product is used. Use a fresh, clean microfibre cloth for the buff-off step and work in sections to avoid the product over-drying before you wipe.
Is Glaco compatible with standard wiper blades?
Yes, Glaco is safe for use with standard rubber wiper blades. The hydrophobic layer means you will need to run your wipers far less frequently in rain, which actually reduces blade wear over time. There is no chemical incompatibility. If your blades streak briefly after the first application, that residue will clear within a few wipe cycles.
Can I use Glaco on my headlight lenses or perspex surfaces?
Glaco is designed and tested for automotive glass. Polycarbonate headlight lenses and perspex surfaces are chemically different to glass and may react unexpectedly to solvent-based repellents. It is safest to stick to dedicated glass surfaces and use a product specifically formulated for plastic optics on anything non-glass.
