How do I apply Double Skin correctly?
Hold the aerosol approximately 15 cm from the fabric surface and spray evenly. Allow the first coat to absorb fully, then apply a second coat. For best results, apply each coat 24 hours apart. The fabric can be used normally once the film has cured.
What fabric types can I use Double Skin on?
Double Skin is formulated for any kind of fabric, including convertible soft-top roofs, canvas hoods, automotive upholstery, carpet, and other porous textiles. It is not intended for use on painted surfaces, glass, or hard plastics.
How much coverage does one can provide?
Coverage depends on fabric porosity. You can expect between 20 and 50 ml per square metre, meaning one can protects approximately 10 to 25 m² of fabric. Denser, tighter weaves use less product; open, highly porous fabrics use more.
How many coats do I need to apply?
At least two consecutive coats are recommended. Apply the first coat, allow it to absorb fully, then apply the second coat. For heavily porous or worn fabrics, a third coat applied 24 hours after the second will improve durability and water resistance.
Can the fabric be ironed after application?
Yes. Fra-Ber states that fabrics can be ironed after Double Skin has been applied, so the protective film does not interfere with normal fabric care and maintenance.
Does Double Skin affect the breathability or texture of the fabric?
No. The nano-film is designed to be breathable, meaning moisture vapour can still pass through the fabric. The texture and feel of the treated surface remain largely unchanged - it seals the fibres without creating a heavy coating layer.
What is the flash point and is Double Skin safe to store?
Double Skin has a flash point above 100°C. Store the aerosol can unopened at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. As with any pressurised aerosol, keep it away from open flames during application.
Can Double Skin be layered with other fabric treatments or cleaners?
Double Skin should be applied to a clean, dry fabric surface. Strip any old dressings or treatments before application so the nano-film bonds directly to the fibres. Once cured, the surface can be spot-cleaned gently; re-application is recommended if the hydrophobic properties begin to diminish after repeated washing.
