Remove Tree Sap and Bird Droppings from Your Car's Paint in 6 Steps

Tree sap and bird droppings don't just look bad and unhygienic, but they can also cause permanent damage to your car’s paint if not removed quickly and properly.

Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to safely removing tree sap and bird droppings:

Step 1: Act Quickly

The longer sap and bird droppings sit on your car, the more damage they can cause to the surface of your vehicle/paint. Sap can harden, and droppings contain acids that eat away at the clear coat, making it essential to remove the debris before any serious damage occurs.

Step 2: Pre-rinse the Surface

Start by rinsing the affected area with water to remove loose dirt and prevent scratching during the cleaning process. Use a hose pipe or a pressure-washer with no added chemicals.

Step 3: Use a Specialized Cleaner

Apply a tar or sap remover or use a mixture of warm water and mild soap. Let it sit for a few minutes to soften the contaminants.  We would recommend using No Insect by Fra-Ber. No Insect by Fra-Ber is a professional insect, tree sap, bird droppings and gnat remover for cars and vehicles, designed for exterior surfaces, which is safe on all treated parts it comes into contact with.

Step 4: Gently Wipe

Using a soft microfiber cloth like the Micron 2F, gently wipe the area. Avoid scrubbing harshly, as this could damage the paint.

Step 5: Clay Bar Treatment

For tougher, stuck-on sap or droppings, a clay bar treatment can safely remove them without scratching the surface. Clay bars can come in soft, medium and hard, depending on your required level of treatment- Clay Bar by Fra-Ber.

Step 6: Rinse and Protect

After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with a hose pipe or pressure washer, followed by applying a layer of wax or sealant to protect the paint from future contaminants.

Conclusion

Remember, regularly cleaning your car helps prevent buildup that could damage the paint in the long run. By taking care of your car's exterior, you'll keep it looking new and protect its resale value.
